Show me Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; on You I wait all the day.
-psalm 25:4-5 This should be a prayer that we start out praying in the morning as soon as we wake up. David knew so well that he needed to walk in the path of God. He knew that only the way God walked was the right way. He desired for God to show him how to walk. That should be our desire as well. Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life."(john14:6) and "follow Me"(john21:19). If we have that same desire that David had on wanting God to show us, in wanting God to teach us, and in wanting God to lead us....then we must go to the "Way"(Jesus) and follow Him. -Luke Psalm 25-9:"
The humble He guides in justice, And the humble He teaches His way." David is writing here that God honors humility. We notice that this is a common theme, most exemplified through Jesus. Jesus the King of Kings and Lord of Lords came as a servant. One of His many great lessons was humility. I feel that Christ gave us the ultimate example of humility, and that we should make sure we also are humble. It is always a big struggle to show humility in even small ways, but all we have to do is remember Jesus on the cross and it puts everything in perspective! -10th Grade Student Psalm 25:10
All the paths of The Lord are mercy and truth, To such as keep His covenant and His testimonies. This verse really reminds me that Jesus gives us salvation, mercy, love, grace, and so much more, but all he asks for in return is that we honor him in our lives. We don't deserve anything we receive from God, yet His love for us is unconditional. That definitely motivates me to live every aspect of my life for God! 8th Grade Student For by You I can run against a troop, by my God I can leap over a wall. As for God, his way is perfect; the word of The Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him. Psalm 18:29-30
How easy it is for us to forget the amount of power God has and underestimate his influence in our lives... Through Him we can accomplish anything and he will protect us as long as we put all our trust in him. -10th Grade Student Show me Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; On You I wait all the day. Psalms 25:4-5
Oh how often should we pray this prayer! If it is our desire to be molded into a man or woman of God, like David, we must be taught the ways of the The Lord. Paul had told Timothy that the Scriptures are given for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped. As we read through the Word of God, may we be taught the truth, shown the ways of the Lord and walk down those paths! -Pete I have purposed that my mouth shall not transgress. Concerning the works of men, By the word of you lips, I have kept away from the paths of the destroyer. Uphold my steps in your paths, that my footsteps may not slip. Psalm 16:3-4
Here we are reminded that we have to purpose in our hearts not to fall to sin. It is by the grace of God we are able to live the lives we do today and if we have sin in our lives it can be extremely difficult to follow Gods will! At the end of verse 4 we are left with a reminder... If we try to follow in the path God has for us without him guiding us we will surely fall! Consult Him in all that you do to avoid stumbling in your walk. 10th Grade Student Then David inquired of the Lord once again. And the Lord answered him and said, “Arise, go down to Kēīlah. For I will deliver the Philistines into your hand.”
-1 Samuel 23:4 We would certainly expect a man in step with the heart of God to surely inquire of The Lord when in troublesome situation. It was the words "Once Again" that are so beautiful. "Once Again" are we able to sit before our Savior seek counsel, wisdom, forgiveness of sin and strengthening. Each day as we rise and walk with Jesus may we say "Once Again" we will seek and commune with Jesus. -Pete Psalm 22:16-"For dogs have surrounded me;The congregation of the wicked have enclosed me. They pierced My hands and My feet; I can count all my bones, They look and stare at me. They divide My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots."
How eery that once again. david seems to be talking from the view point of Jesus on the cross! This is crazy! Isaiah also alludes Jesus's death, but he is a prophet. David is a soldier and musician. The is only one answer to how David seems to know this. He was in such close communion with God that he felt Jesus's pain and suffering many centuries before he comes! Not only is this proof of the validity of the Bible, but also an amazing source of inspiratio and a goal for us as believers: develope a such a intimate and personal relationship with Jesus Christ! -10th Grade Student My God, My God, why have you forsaken me? Why are You so far from helping Me, and from the words of My groaning?-psalm 22:1
The words of our Lord Jesus Christ spoken through David so long ago. I don't think David knew exactly what he was writing down when he did this. As we go to the crucifixion, we see these words are what was happening to Jesus. A prophesy being fulfilled when He said,"My God, My God, why have you forsaken Me?" Do we actually understand what He was saying? All of our sin was laid upon Jesus and God's wrath went on Him instead of us. In Jesus saying that, I think it was His way of letting us know that He bore the sin for us. And each time we read that, it is a reminder that He has done this for us. His hands and feet were pierced, His bones were out of joint, His strength was gone, He was stared at, and He was mocked.......all for you and I! How great is our God that He would go through all of that for us! He did it for me and a He did it for you. He loves us! -Luke The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. Psalm 9:9
Here we see that on top everything God continues to do more for us... He is there for us when all is well but he is also ready for us to turn to him in times of trouble! 10th Grade Student |
